September 10
Get ready for “God’s Work. Our Hands.” Day of Service on September 10! This year, instead of having a variety of activities for everyone to get involved in, we want to highlight St. Mark’s ministries in our worship service and provide easy ways to get involved. We will emphasize one of our ongoing ministries: Blessings in a Backpack. You are invited to pack one – or multiple – Blessings bags. The bags will be presented during the service as an additional means of praying for this ministry. See the list below of items needed per Blessing bag.
For some children in our community, the only consistent meals they receive come from their school. What happens on the weekend? Blessings in a Backpack. During the school year, we help a little by providing 75 bags of food for kiddos at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary.
Items for a Blessings bag*:
- 1 – 100% juice box/pouch
- 2 – fruit cups or applesauce
- 1 – 15 oz. can of ravioli, spaghetti or lasagna (pop-top cans ONLY)
- 1 – individual oatmeal packet (any flavor)
- 1 – pudding cup (any flavor)
- 1 – Pop-tart (two pastries)
- 1 – individual bag of Cheez-its or Goldfish
*Place items in a “Wal-Mart”-style bag, and tie off.
In addition to Blessing bags, Hospital Ministry will be preparing and packaging chocolate chip cookies and pretzels as part of “God’s work. Our hands.” Day. This month our focus is on the 150 employees in the Huntsville Hospital Lab. For those who are available, volunteers will be baking cookies during the Sunday Learning hour and packaging all items following worship. Ingredients have been supplied through a Thrivent Action card and previous donations; however, volunteer help is needed!
